Soft Speaker celebrates the release of their latest album, Turkish Mindbathers, tonight with a headlining slot at Lincoln Hall. Their latest offering continues down the psychedelic path they've been exploring in their more recent work, but instead of merely relying on waves of guitar wash to drive their psych the group continues to explore melody and their ability to construct intricate portraits of sound.
The album as a whole steers far more into the rock and/or roll territory than previous efforts. Where the group dabbled and meshed genres together to create different pastiches, they have now doubled down on the throb of a sound grounded in the late '60s, and while we miss some of the more unexpected forays we've experienced from the group in the past the result is a solidly satisfying listen.
The group has generously offered to let share share a non-album track â" previously only available to supporters of the band's Kickstarter campaign behind the LP â" and we hope it gives you a flavor of the band's latest efforts. "Here's To Your Deathride" is a darker number in contrast to the material that made it onto the album, but we think that the shadows will draw you in and lead you to the swirling arrangements of the rest of the Turkish Mindbathers material.
