The Lumineers recently performed their double-platinum single, “Ho Hey†live at the Grammys last month (where they were also nominees) before an audience that eagerly sang along. You even voted their self-titled debut in the top five best albums AND songs of the year in our 2012 XRT Listener’s Poll!
Childhood friends Wesley Schultz and Jeremiah Fraites formed the band back in 2005 then went on to meet their third member and cellist, Neyla Pakarek, on craigslist of all places. Although they had an unlikely start, they successfully breathed fresh air into folk music. Now The Lumineers are dishing out hit after hit with their folk-rock charm and they make it look easy; in fact part of their charm is the melodic simplicity of their music.
“Submarines†is the band’s third single, almost immediately after two back to back #1 hit songs.
The drummer Fraites told The Crimson White, “We’re not reinventing the wheel or doing anything that different, the songs are super simple. The ideas themselves are very simple ideas. Anyone who can play an instrument can play a Lumineers song. I think there’s a certain cinematic aspect of our music that I really like.â€
