According to IPL's tweets, the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) official mobile apps for iPhone and Android users, developed by Pulse Innovations, are up for download.
The apps that allow cricket enthusiasts to enjoy live ball-by-ball updates, replays, statistics and much more, instantly and from anywhere, are a boon for students preparing for forthcoming entrance exams.
"We are preparing for our medical entrance exams in the following months and cannot watch the entire series on TV as we have to attend tuitions. So the cell p hone apps are a great help," Payel Ghosh, a standard 12 student and owner of a smartphone, told IANS.
Similarly, hostel students living in towns across West Bengal, who do not have access to TV sets and broadband connection always, are all set to go cyber.
"Sometimes we do not get proper internet connections to our hostel rooms. And TV sets fall short for all the hostel messes. Cell phone apps will be a relief for us," an engineering student of a leading technological institute in the state, told IANS.
Not only the youngsters, but older cricket fans are also gung-ho about downloading IPL-related software and ringtones.
"I have downloaded the IPL ringtone 'Dil Jumping' from a website. I have already installed the mobile phone apps since I will be travelling abroad and want to keep track of all the action," a city-based leather exporter told IANS.
With nine teams and over 70 matches, Pepsi IPL 2013 will be officially inaugurated April 2 at a glittering ceremony in the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata, followed by the first match of the league between defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils April 3 at the historic Eden Gradens here.
The gala opening will see rapper Pitbull and Bollywood actors Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif enthrall audiences.
