Ecoute, an iOS music player app that “puts Apple’s Music app to shame,” has just received its second major update.

Released in August last year and subsequently given an AppAdvice App of the Week honorable mention, Ecoute got its first major update last October. That update brought iPhone 5 support and iTunes Match enhancements, among other improvements.

Now, Ecoute’s second significant update brings automatic artwork download, a “Play Next” feature, and URL scheme support.

With the new version of Ecoute, you can now automatically download missing album artworks for your music collection thanks to the app’s improved Last.fm integration. Of course, you can still automatically scrobble your played tracks in Ecoute to your Last.fm account.

The app’s new version also introduces a “Play Next” feature, which puts any track, album, or artist into the queue right after the currently playing track. Just long-tap on an item you want to play next and tap “Play Next” in the context menu.

Finally, along with a couple of bug fixes, Ecoute’s latest update adds support for the app’s very own URL scheme, prefixed with “ecoute://”. This enables Ecoute to interact with other apps like Launch Center Pro. Click here to learn more about the new URL scheme.

Optimized for iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 5.0 or later, the new version of Ecoute is available now as a free update or as a new $2.99 download in the App Store.
